We have just returned from a short family trip to the Netherlands. Since we stayed near Rotterdam, it was clear that I would take a look at a few filming locations from Who Am I? (1998). Four years before Jason Bourne, elite soldier Jackie Chan suffers from memory loss and embarks on an action-packed search for his identity.
Of course, the first filming location I went to was Willemswerf. In the movie, we first see the building through the window panes of the restaurant, which is located on the opposite side of the street. This place is now a gym with a completely different interior design.
Now we come to the scene, where Jackie gains entry to the building. With the help of a recumbent bike, he rolls inconspicuously past the guards. This lower area was also freely accessible for me, but entering the building is impossible without accreditation.
When I was finally able to see the building in real life, I immediately noticed that the slope seemed much steeper than in the film. And it gets narrower and narrower at the bottom. While it may not be one of his hardest stunts, it's definitely one of his most iconic.
As I was about to leave, I saw a very pleasant-looking guy who was about to enter the building. I asked him if he knew about the Jackie Chan movie that was filmed here. He replied that everyone here knows about the film. Then he kindly offered to take me to the first level so that I could take a few photos there. We went up a flight of stairs and suddenly we were standing where Jackie was breaking the window after the slide. I didn't have any screenshots of the scene with me, so I just quickly took several pictures from different angels. We also went to the parking deck where Jackie did the jump over the stair railing. Afterwards the nice guy accompanied me outside again. If you're reading this: You're a legend sir! Thank you so much!
