Armour of God - Austrian Parliament Building, Vienna

Recently, the UK label 88 Films released an awesome Blu Ray box set of Armour of God. I had the great honor of contributing some of my filming location photos for the bonus features. It almost feels surreal to have the opportunity to be part of something like this. I would like to celebrate this with a few location-pictures from Vienna that I have not yet published.

The exterior shots before Rosamund Kwan's kidnapping were filmed at the Austrian Parliament. Accordingly, it almost seems like a coup d'etat when the armed killer monks gain access to the said building.

Armour of God - Outer Castle Gate, Vienna

A Mitsubishi truck full of trigger-happy fellow believers races through the famous Outer Castle Gate (Äußeres Burgtor) in the middle of Vienna. The upper inscription FRANCISCVS. I. IMPERATOR. AVSTRIAE. MDCCCXXIV. stands for Franz I., Emperor of Austria. The lower inscription LAVRVM. MILITIBUS. LAVRO. DIGNIS. MDCCCCXVI. means "laurel to the soldiers worthy of the laurel 1916".

Armour of God - St. Stephen's Cathedral, Vienna

In addition to the sights of Vienna already mentioned, the moviegoer can also catch a glimpse of St. Stephen's Cathedral (Stephansdom). Conclusion: If you want to visit the Austrian capital but can't make the journey there, you should just watch Armour of God. Best on Blu Ray from 88 Films.

Armour of God - Jezuitski trg, Zagreb

In the Summer of 2018, my wonderful girlfriend Madeleine and I went on an unforgettable road trip with our fire red '92 Volkswagen Passat. We drove through Austria, Slovenia, Croatia, Hungary, Slovakia and Czech Republic. Of course, I didn't want to annoy her with my constant search for filming locations, but I couldn't ignore the chance to see some Armour of God locations in real life. In the end, we did take one or two time-consuming detours, so that I could pursue my nerdy hobby. Thank you very much, Madeleine, for your patience and tolerance. I love you!

Jezuitski trg ("jesuit square") is the place where the car chase begins. By the way, we didn't go to every place where the film was shot, so a second road trip will be inevitable. I hope this isn't too much of a shock for Madeleine.

Armour of God - Strossmartre, Zagreb

Strossmartre aka Strossmayer Promenade is a romantic place where you can relax and enjoy some coffee. Unless Jackie Chan is in the area...

Armour of God - Ćirilometodska ulica, Zagreb

Jackie's racing down Ćirilometodska ulica in his futuristic Mitsubishi (the car of my dreams). In the 2nd screenshot we see the villainous motorcyclists and jeep drivers coming out of Vitezovićeva ulica ("ulica" translates as "street"). The area is part of Zagreb's beautiful upper town called Gornji Grad.

Armour of God - Most čez Savo in Krko, Brežice

Armour of God features two spectacular scenes that take place on bridges. After talking about the huge bridge jump in Zagreb, it does make sense to check out the filming location of the car explosion that puts an end to the film's extensive chase sequence.
The scene was filmed next to a town called Brežice in eastern Slovenia, near the Croatian border. The name of the bridge is "Most čez Savo in Krko", meaning something like "bridge over the rivers Savo and Krko". When we arrived there, the two-parted bridge was closed because of some construction works. Nevertheless, I could sneak beyond the barriers for some snaps.

Armour of God - Prudi, Zagreb

Time to continue the Armour of God filming locations marathon. Today, it's all about the infamous bridge jump. The stunt was filmed in Croatia's beautiful capital Zagreb. We see Jackie and his hostile persecutors speeding down a street called Prudi and jumping over the elevated Avenija Veceslava Holjevca. The distinctive looking tower in the background of the first two screenshots belongs to the broadcasting centre of Croatian Radiotelevision HRT.
In the movie, the distance of the jumps looks massive. After seeing the location with my own eyes, I have even more respect and admiration for the stuntmen who flew over this broad dual-bridge.
